Dames Dinner Club and My New Favorite App.

Happy Thursday to you! This morning’s run…enjoying some sunrise action while I pounded the pavement a bit.

I decided to try out MapMyRun on my phone for this run and I LOVED it! Seriously my new favorite app. So much data on this free app…you can see the elevation of your route, pace, distance, and mile SPLITS. People…save yourself money if you don’t already own a Garmin or GPS watch and get this app like pronto tonto. It is insanely awesome.

Last night after teaching I dashed on home to get fresh and meet up with the girls at The Standard Pour for the Dames Dinner Club. 3 nights a week various spots in Uptown Dallas host a free 3 course meal for the ladies along with drink specials. We got caught up while we dined on the patio. I will definitely be going to more of these in the future! Come join, you know you want to.

Happy Things Thursday.

Happy Thursday! Looks like we’ve finally gotten over the hump and are headed towards the weekend. I hope you have had a great week. Mine has been busy but fun. Always a good time when you get to take long birthday lunches with your coworkers, which we’ve had not once but twice in the past week. We get really excited around the office for birthdays. It’s fun though, makes you feel real special.

we always go all out when decorating office spaces.

So since I like to create lists and since it’s Thursday I thought I would write down all of the things that are making me happy today. Are you okay with that? I figured you would be.
Marathon training makes me happy.
I don’t know what it is, but I desire to have structure in my running. I love to train and run marathons. I love bumping up my mileage. I like tapering off and recharging my legs for a race (and carb loading, who doesn’t love that?). I LOVE racing. I LOVE coming up with outfits for running. I love everything that goes into the training. The hard work, the commitment, the dedication.

posing at the end of a race - so important.

Coffee makes me happy.
Well, when does it not? I honestly wish I was one of those people that drinks nothing but tea or water all day but I love me some coffee. All I need is one solid, strong cup and I’m good to go. The Starbucks dark roast always does the trick.

that's my motto.

My job makes me happy.
I can definitely say that I have been blessed with a job working in television that I absolutely love. It hasn’t always been that way. A couple of years back I was in a high stress job working crazy hours in the local news. I worked overnights and on weekends for 3 years. I put on weight due to sitting at the news desk around the clock and snacking all the time. I loved my coworkers but I was pretty unhappy.

Me and my coworker Gerardo working election night. Smiling through stress.

Then, after 3 long years and a huge wave of layoffs, I got hit with the pink slip. It was definitely a blessing in disguise. I applied for a job online with a christian television station, and I interviewed and got the job. It was the job I always wanted too, as an Assistant Producer. Fast forward a couple of years later, and now I’m a Promotions Producer and I have found my true passion, writing promos. It’s challenging and fun, and keeps me busy. Plus, Christians work normal 9 to 5 hours! What a concept!

we even get our own little photo shoots sometimes. how fun.

Running with friends makes me happy.
When I got laid off at CBS, I was at home a lot…bored to pieces. I lived near a running/fitness store called Luke’s Locker…and decided to go over there to shop for workout clothes one day. When I went over there I remember seeing signs for a social run. So, I came out one Thursday evening. It was a good time. I met many new faces that day, a lot of them were faster than me. But they were so friendly. I could get used to this, I thought. I have so much free time now, might as well! So I came out again on a Wednesday morning at 6 am. While we were running, someone told me about Luke’s half marathon training program. A HALF marathon? I could never do that. Run for 13.1 miles, that’s insane! I thought. But it would give me an opportunity to meet new people, and start a new lifestyle of running, something I always wanted to do when I worked in the news but never had time or energy for. So, I took the plunge. I joined Luke’s Locker and started training. I met some amazing people, and started to believe in myself as a runner. Little by little I built my mileage and running a half marathon didn’t sound so insane like before. Then I ran my first marathon in Chicago. I made some lifelong friendships and these bonds with these runners has sincerely changed my life. I cherish these friendships and being able to run with these people has made my life better.
Below is a video from the Luke’s half marathon training back in 2009. It still makes me smile.
Teaching dance makes me happy.
I am so grateful to have an opportunity to teach Danceaton, even if right now I can’t do it in the capacity that I would like. I love being a sub, and floating around to the different gyms to teach. I also love making up playlists to teach class…always fun finding songs and putting together a sweat filled workout.

as u can see...lots of opportunities to sweat here!

Who would have known that a few years ago when I first took my first “Latin Spice” class (what it was called back in the day) with Gaby that I would be teaching the class now. I am thankful for Gaby – who is a hardworking lead Danceaton instructor and always comes to class with her A game. She is such an inspiration and makes me want to always put my best foot forward.

Me & Gaby...love this lady.

Music makes me happy.
Especially at work. I don’t know what I would do without my Pandora…right now it’s on John Legend radio. I like to mix it up…today I’m feeling mellow.
What is making you happy today?
